YACHTING CUP NEWS

Another spirited Yachting Cup has wrapped up and, as always, this year’s regatta was full of character. After a tiring, bumpy day on Saturday, many competitors were relieved that Sunday’s races were back to familiar conditions. On all three courses, most competitors looked less stressed and pleased to see smoother seas.

Day two of Yachting Cup featured a lot of activity spread throughout the three ocean courses where eighty-five boats competed in twelve different classes. The Race Committee fit in 4 races on Courses A and B but only 3 races on Course C due to shifty winds and 4-5 foot swells. Throughout the day incredibly tight navigating was needed around weather marks, giving an excuse for sailors to showcase their maneuvering talent.

Day one of San Diego Yacht Club’s signature spring regatta, Yachting Cup, wrapped up Friday evening with the first race in San Diego Bay. Eighty-five boats in four classes participated in the Friday Ton Cup Race of Yachting Cup weekend. The Yachting Cup will continue on Saturday and Sunday with racing on three ocean course venues each day.

San Diego Yacht Club’s signature spring regatta, Yachting Cup, is just around the corner and many prominent sailors are eagerly awaiting and training for the event. There are about 50 boats registered from over a dozen yacht clubs, and there is still room on the registration list for participants to sign-up as nearly 100 entries are expected.
